On February 6, news on the BOCOG official website detailed plans from the
project management department regarding construction of the National Stadium in
Beijing. According to planners, by the end of the month, the piling work of the
first 100 columns establishing the foundation of the National Stadium will have
been completed.
According to reports, the National Stadium will require a total of 1,800
pillars for its foundation. The first 100 of these are scheduled to be
completely set up between the 20th to the 25th of the month. The remaining
pillars to be used in the construction are pending quality assurance results
from technical testing.
In December of last year, an additional 41 of these pillars underwent
intensive tests to ensure technical precision before they were used in the
construction of the National Stadium. The results from the testing will be
presented around the 15th of this month. From March on, it is expected that the
National Stadium will begin to keep a store of quality-assured pillars.
