
To celebrate the 60th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China, the Bird’s Nest will take on a new look to exhibit the grandeur of this iconic venue and receive friends and guests at home and abroad.
Comprehensive renovation for a brand new look
A comprehensive renovation in the Bird’s Nest have been carried out shortly before the National Day to give a cleanup to the venue’s steel structure, membrane structure, the flooring, synthetic surface track, hand rails, etc. In addition, direct drinking water system was put into use, guide signs were improved, information booths and vending machines were set up, guide maps and consultation service hotline (84373008) were provided, highlighting human oriented design and service.
Diverse and colorful activities
At the west circular corridor of the first floor, tourists can enjoy the “Photo Exhibition of Olympic Constructors”, which gives a full demonstration of the hard work of those who devoted themselves in the construction of the grand project. “World Records of the Birth of Bird’s Nest & Olympics Exhibition” presents the charm of the athletes taking part in the Olympics. During the National Day holiday, audience seating in the west grandstands can enjoy exciting Fuwa shows and dancing performances every hour. They can also watch short films from the large screen, including “The Beautiful Olympiad”, “The Beauty of the Nest”, “Fantastic Moments of Bird’s Nest”, “Three Ideals of Bird’s Nest”, through which the audience can get a full dimensional understanding of the beauty of the architecture and the splendor of the Beijing Olympic Games. A variety of other options are also available, including the “Waxwork Show of IOC Presidents” on the southwest side, “Photo Exhibition of Construction Process of Bird’s Nest” at the east circular corridor and “Photo Exhibition of Fantastic Moments in Bird’s Nest”.
Embraced by flowers in blossom
Groups of flowerbeds were placed on the south side of the Bird’s Nest. Under the theme of the 60th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China, the landscape represents the prosperous development of the country. The west side of the stadium and part of the passages and porches were decorated with all kinds of flowers.

From September 27, the west corridor of the fifth floor of the stadium will be open to the public. From the south end of the corridor, tourists can have a panoramic view of the north-south city axis of Beijing brimmed with traditional and modern outlook. At the north end of the corridor, look of the Games including the Water Cube (National Aquatics Center), Linglong Tower (Multifunctional Studio Tower), the Dragon-shaped Olympic Water System, the Olympic Forest Park are all in sight.

“Photo Exhibition of the Three Ideals of Bird’s Nest” at the west corridor on the fifth floor will give tourists a better understanding of “Green Olympics, High-tech Olympics and People’s Olympics” embodied by the architecture of the Bird’s Nest. Props used in the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games are on display at the west corridor. Those include the Fou drums, Guzheng (traditional Chinese musical instrument), bamboo scrolls, ship paddles and oars, from which tourists can have a taste of the grand occasion of the opening ceremony.

Chinese version of Italian opera Turandot
Since the mid-September, preparation works including stage building and settings for Torandot slated on October 6 and 7 have been under way. The brand new production of the Italian opera is helmed by director Zhang Yimou, and the creative team behind the Beijing Olympic Games Opening Ceremony. Ticket service will close at 12:00 on October 6 and 7.
