The countdown to the release of Zhang Yimou’s Turandot produced by the creative team behind the Beijing Olympic Games Opening Ceremony has started. Hundreds of staff has been setting up the stage day and night. Tens of thousands of steel frames were seen at the center of the venue and the gigantic stage has already been in its early form. Occupying a total area of more than 3,000 square meters, the stage is 87m wide, 5.4m in height and 39m in depth, with stage settings up to 23 meters high. According to the organizers, 50,000 pieces of advanced layer truss will be used to build the stage in order to bring a spectacular show.
The construction team for Turandot entered the Bird’s Nest on September 11. They started with flooring protection and have been working on the stage around the clock since September 14. With the stage base already in sight, the constructors will lay stage floor boards onto the steel structure in the following days.
